Weaning & Teething

It’s almost 2 months since we started Princess on semi-solids. She isn’t taking it as well as I thought she would. Is she not ready or am I just too enthusiastic & impatient?

I was actually looking forward to this stage, my mind filled with ideas of what food to prepare for her. She was a bit apprehensive about trying something new but after trying out various cereals, fruit and vegetable puree, she took to them quite well. So we happily progressed to increase her food intake and then out of the blue, she started to protest during mealtimes. She starts well for the first few spoonfuls after which each spoonfuls gets progressively more challenging. It takes much coaxing to get her to open her mouth each time which otherwise would be tightly pursed together no matter what you say or do. Looking at her, I don’t know whether to laugh or to get angry.

Advice from friend is to be patient and persistent, she will eventually learn to eat such food. To save myself the unnecessary frustration, I will hold back my horses and learn to go at her pace. Think that is the best for everyone.

The fact that she is teething doesn’t seem to help as well. Gone are the days with her sleeping through the night, she will sometimes wake up in the wee hours, feeling irritable & frustrated. Other times, she doesn’t want to go back to sleep and looks up at you with wide open eyes!! Really hope that this phase will pass quickly so that I can have my beauty sleep back. Fingers crossed!!

Back to Work

Princess can babble and coo now and loves it when you talk to her. She seems to be able to recognise me and always gives me the million dollar smile especially in the morning when she wakes up. If I am lucky, I might even get a chuckle or two. Now that I am starting work, time with her will have to be cut down which is so sad especially now when she is such great fun! Good thing is that I work from home, so I still have visibility over her whenever I want to. However, with cuteness at such close range, keeping my hands off her is quite a feat. Temptation and distraction are great and resistance might sometimes be futile.

Papa was very thoughtful to work from home as well on my first day in case I needed any help. He has been most supportive throughout my pregnancy, after birth and even till now. Worried that I would not be able to adjust back to working schedule, he kept reminding me to tweak Princess’s timing to accommodate my schedule. Surprisingly, Princess seems to know that Mama is starting work and was very co-operative to sleep through the night. This is the first sleep through she has given me since the departure of the confinement lady! Really hope she continues this practice.

Time really flies when you are enjoying yourself. 16 weeks just flew by like that and now it is time to get back to work. Getting the engine going again is not easy, not to mention with the additional distraction. Will need some re-adjustments and some getting used to…

Haiz…goodbye to full-time mummy! *Sob*Sob*

First Father’s Day

Really got to thank 奶奶 & 姑姑 for sparing their time on weekends to look after Princess so that Mama & Papa can steal some time for ourselves.

We dropped off Princess at 奶奶’s house on June 19th Saturday, then headed down to Chinatown for lunch and also to buy some toiletries. Lunch was suppose to be celebration for Father’s Day (in advance) but we had free tickets for the movie ” Toy Story 3″ at 3.40pm, so due to time constraint, we had to make do with lunch in Chinatown. As per Papa’s request, we settled for 锅贴, fried dumplings and Hot & Sour Soup.

Simple meal but marks a great day! Happy Father’s Day!!

Mama’s Post (since Baby’s Delivery)

To Papa! For a great job in keeping our blog updated!

It has been a while since I last done a posting, but with Papa’s constant nagging, I finally found some time today to do it!

Since Princess came along, time seems to fly by with not much time to do my own things or maybe that I am not managing my time well or just plain lazy, haha!

Everyday, it has been either bathtime, playtime, wash bottle time, feed time,  expressing milk time, Princess nap time, poo time or catching up on my own sleep time, don’t really have much time for leisure. Weekends without my Mom’s presence, commands even more attention from me as Papa is still not a complete substitute for her where Princess is concerned. But he is improving and will get there, some day, I hope. So I still look forward to weekends cos we can spend more quality time together as a family.

As for Princess, she is getting more chatty by the day and the latest progress was for me to wake up one morning to find that she has made a 90 degrees turn from her pillow!! Who knows what she will do next time?

Week 32 Checkup (Detailed Scan)

The day for the detailed scan has arrived!

Papa was late in picking us up due to work commitments, hence we were a bit late for our appointment. I have tried to prep baby a few days earlier to be cooperative today so that we can have a good look at her and the scan can be done smoothly. Fingers crossed that she will be good.

Went to the clinic first to register, did the usual weight, urine & blood test before heading upstairs to the 4th floor the scan. On the 4th floor, we registered and paid for the scan before proceeding to the waiting area to be called. Surprisingly, just shortly after we sat down, a lady called out my name. Papa was told to wait outside first while I was led to the room for the scan.

Jelly was spread on my tummy, my goodness, was it cold!! Then the scan started with the sonographer asking me some questions regarding the last scans which were done. Hence, the issue which we did not want to talk about was raised to her attention. She carried on with the scan but baby got either a bit excited or disturbed that she suddenly moved and jerked about which interrupted the scan. The sonographer exclaimed that she is quite an active baby!  We both tried to calm her down so that we could continue with the scan. Luckily, she was cooperative during the rest of the scan.

After that, Papa was called in to take a look. Told him that the issue which we did not want to talk about was still there but we could only discuss in detail with the gynae later. Baby was still shy about letting us see her as we were still not able to see a full frontal view of her, just a silhouette of her side view. However, she did try to say hello by giving us a wave according to the sonographer. With that, she printed out the report which we took downstairs to meet with our gynae.

From the report, baby’s growth and blood circulation are normal, estimated weight now is about 2kg. Gynae extrapolated her weight till birth could be about 3kg+! Asked about the issue which we did not want to talk about, gynae does not seem to see it as a major concern. So looking on the bright side too, it will not turn out to be a major concern, fingers crossed!

As for me, blood test shows that iron level has dropped tremendously which gynae says makes me quite anemic . So he has no choice but to prescribe iron tablets for me. Hopefully, this does not give me constipation! Other than that, all is well for me! Schedule has been changed to see him fortnightly…
