Great Expectations 2011

So GE2011 is upon us, and tomorrow is Nomination Day.

I just met an old man, probably late 60s, early 70s, working hard for his money, who told me by the middle of each month, he’ll 钱不够用.

“$735, before CPF deduction”, he sighed. “And if the customer runs off without paying, we will be made to pay,” he said while pointing in the direction of his fellow senior citizen colleagues.

He’s not working as a cleaner or for a local SME. He works for a company that, for years, have been a part of an oligopoly that has never been taken to task for arbitrarily setting price increases.

He is a pump attendant.

This depressing of wages and ever-increasing cost of living nonsense has to stop somewhere. We need a change.

And I think the change we have been craving for will start with this election.

“Please, sir, I want some more”

Apologies to our regular readers (yes, I’m referring to all 3 of you) if we have been tardy in updating this blog.

Papa’s new work place adopts a very open concept. Let’s just say it’s … not conducive to be updating personal blogs.

As for Mama, the only time she has is after the little princess sleeps. Recently, this golden timeslot has been taken over by birds, pigs, and malls.

So please bear with us while we make the necessary adjustments.

Post Date: 22 April 2011. Good Friday, ie. holiday, ie. finally got time to update blog

Ideas factory

Maintaining a blog is like keeping a diary during those yesteryears.

It takes discipline and commitment to keep writing and posting.

More importantly, it’s quite a challenge to keep coming up with new ideas. It was therefore quite heart-warming to read what Ignatius Low had to say in the March 2011 edition of The Straits Times’ weSubscribe.

Like him, I draw ideas from what I’ve seen, heard or my thoughts. Next is the delivery, either by varying the style, tone or even language.

Should have been a journalist, just like what my horoscope says!

Smell smell

Last time when I came into contact with babies, they always smell very good. My impression was that babies, like aroma oils, smelt nice naturally.

So when little girl came about, I was a little quizzical. She wasn’t always at her… aroma oil best. Moreover, little girl perspires a lot, no thanks to the stuffiness of our place.

Then it dawned on me – people tend to bring their babies out after a nice bath or wash-up. That way, the baby smells fresh and clean!

Either that, or Mama has been too stingy with the baby powder : )

Ok, I think I know where part of the problem is

I think I found part of the reason why I am not sleeping well…

(Reuters Health) – People who spend more pre-bedtime hours using the Internet or watching television are more likely to report that they don’t get enough sleep, even though they sleep almost as long as people who spend fewer pre-bedtime hours in front of a computer or television screen, survey findings show.
